This Graduate Diploma provides an avenue for further study under certain circumstances, if:

  • You are ineligible for entry to Honours at UWA
  • You want proceed to Master's candidature
  • You want an advanced qualification in a specific area of expertise

Course outline

This course addresses the emergence of new diseases and the re-emergence of diseases previously thought to be under control, as well as the effect of global climate change and the changing international security environment under the spectre of bioterrorism.

The course provides advanced training in the field of infectious diseases, with programs in Medical Microbiology, Tropical Infectious Diseases, Public and Environmental Health Microbiology. It is aimed at science based and medical professionals intending to work in medical clinics, hospital diagnostic laboratories, government health departments and international agencies.

Admission requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in the biomedical, biological or related areas of science or an equivalent degree; or
  • A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent qualification; or
  • A Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc) or equivalent qualification.
  • Applicants with applied biomedical science degrees (such as medical technology, nursing and the like) are also considered for entry to the course.
