Mechanical and Electronic Workshop

The Workshop is responsible for providing custom design and construction of specific mechanical and electronic devices for research and teaching within the School.

As the School does not have service contracts on any of its research or teaching equipment, the Workshop is also responsible for maintaining and servicing these instruments.

Workshop equipment

  • 5 lathes ranging from a Merli (225mm swing, 1200mm B.C.) to a watchmakers lathe.
  • 3 milling machines (2 vertical, 1 universal)
  • 1 small universal grinder
  • 1 1200mm guillotine
  • 1 1200mm sheet metal bender
  • 1 cut off saw
  • 1 power hacksaw

Wood working equipment

  • Radial arm saw
  • Bandsaw
  • Universal Saw
  • Thicknesser
  • Spindle moulder

Welding equipment

  • TIG welder
  • MIG welder
  • Lincoln DC welder
  • G.M.F. AC welder
  • Miniature spot welder (made in the workshop)
  • Large spot welder
